According to the survey, a survey commissioned by the PET resin association (PETRA) found that disposable PET bottles had less environmental impact during their lifetime than aluminum cans or glass bottles.
The survey by franklin's federation of 20 oz PET bottle, 8 ounce jar or 12 ounces of aluminum cans packaging the total energy consumption of every 100000 ounces of soft drinks, solid waste and greenhouse gas emissions. The results show that PET bottles emit less greenhouse gases, produce less waste and use less energy throughout their lifetime, the survey said.
When comparing the energy consumption, emissions and solid waste of 10,000 12-ounce containers of the same size, the overall energy consumption is similar. But PET bottles emit only two-thirds as much greenhouse gas as aluminum cans, about half as much as glass bottles.
When you compare a 12-ounce PET bottle to a 12-ounce aluminium can or a 12-ounce glass bottle, the former produces fewer pounds of solid waste. But in terms of volume, the solid waste volume produced by aluminum cans is 16.5 cubic yards, the PET bottle is 29.9 cubic yards, and the glass bottle is 37.3-44.1 cubic yards.
The survey of 20 ounces, eight ounces of glass bottles and PET bottles 12 ounces of aluminum cans packaging after comparing 100000 ounces of soft drinks, PET bottle in the life cycle emissions 59% less greenhouse gas than aluminum cans, 77% less than the glass bottle. PET bottles use 11 million BTU per 100,000 ounces of soft drinks, 16 million BTU for aluminum cans and 26.6 million BTU for glass bottles. PET bottles produce 302 pounds of solid waste, 767 pounds of aluminum cans and 4,457 pounds of glass bottles. PET's solid waste volume is 0.67 cubic yards, aluminum cans 0.95 cubic yards and glass bottles 2.14 cubic yards.
